Dear Rick, CLEAR by itself does not reset the string space allotment nor the
himem setting. But Robert has pointed out that just going back to the MENU
frees up the string space, and BASIC reallots 256 bytes no matter what you had
set string space to before. Himem stays where you set it, even when you go
back to the main menu and back to BASIC. When you return to the main menu, the
file buffer space is reclaimed, but when you reenter BASIC, the number of file
buffers you had set before is remembered and restored. So unless you have good
reason to do so, it is best to quash excess file buffers. So I favor the
following:
      CLEAR,MAXRAM:NEW:MAXFILES=1:MENU
 (subject to change!!? Robert?)
