To your question... > Is the M 100 capable of answering the phone? Yes and No. The Model 100 (102 and 200) will receive calls but not automatically answer the phone cause the Model T modems are not auto-answer. However, upon hearing the phone ring, the designated answering computer must tap their <F4>Term function key while in TELCOM to establish establish connection. Once connected, the two computers can communicate but there are a few things you need to know and adjust for to make this an easy/fun proposition. --- Echo: Both computers will put out their characters as typed or uploaded but the sending computer--in both cases--will not see what they are typing. The receiving computer--in both cases--will see what is sent. Solution: After connection is made, both you and your friend should tap/toggle your duplex key, <F4>Full to Half. In other words, each computer must generate its own screen echo. --- Line feeds: Just like with the printer line feeds, the Model 100 does not automatically generate screen line feeds. This means that as you type, everything displays on one line--rendering reading challenging at best. Solution: You will find line feed programs in our online library that will take care of this problem, i.e., The Model 100 computer can generate both the screen and printer line feed characters but the engineers purposly disabled these functions for reasons relating to computing norms at that time. --- What about using the Model 100 as a bulletin board? There are two ways to turn your Model 100 into a BBS. 1) Build an auto-answer cable (*) and use the ANSWER.BA BBS found in the library. 2) Attach an external modem to your Model 100 and use any of the other BBS programs in the (4)Library. Note: You "will" have to play around with the BBS programs to dial them in but that's what a hobby is all about. (*) I have an article reprint from 80 Micro, written by Carl Oppedahl entitled "Give your Model 100 an auto-answer modem for under $10. I will send you a copy--and send anyone else a copy as well, just for the asking. Hope this helps. Good luck... future sysop! -Rick-
