Subj: REPLY TO MSG #782 (FILE COMPRESSION)
Thanks for the info and files and everything. I'll but the XR4 as soon as its available. I think I've squeezed every drop from the 102's memory that I can: I always clear himem after running .co programs and never run a utility over 100 bytes if I can help it. Maxfiles is always set to 0. With file compression and now Tiny.co I can't think of any other trick to maximize memory. With the ability to read and write .do files via the extRAM I won't even have to have Tiny.co in both banks and with the 128K XR4 the sky will be the limit. As for the T300 I especially like the idea of a DOS loader vs. the cassette interface. It always bothered me that ROM space was used up for a cassette and then the TPDD invented afterwards. On the subject of disk drives, I'd like to see direct access to TPDD via the RS-232 port while in Telcom. Again the TPDD seems like an afterthought. Most of the other suggestions for the T300 I agree with, but although I want more, I don't want a lot more. Afterall, I've moved back to the 102 from a few different machines, the 1100FD among them. How about a built in auto-resume feature (I run a handy utility now)? This seems in keeping with the logic of the 102's portability and convenience. -Barry.
