Subj: REPLY TO MSG #5361 (STORAGE OF M100)
---- Excellent question, Irv. Here are a few thoughts... * Yes, if you're going to store your Model 100 for an extended period of time, remove the batteries so there's no chance of acid damage. * Turning off the memory power is a moot point without batteries in the machines since the machine will go completely dead once the nicad drains. * Will having no power in the machine for an extended period of time hurt the Model 100? No, I doubt it unless others here online provide alternative issues. * Will a worked-nicad take a charge after being totally drained and stored for an extended period of time with being keep active? Don't know ... probably if will take a charge but may need to be charged for several minutes or hours or days. I'm not sure of the dynamics but I'm pretty sure it's not a big deal Others may shed more light on this subject. * Is it a big deal if the nicad does not recharge in the future? No. It's a simple de-solder, re-solder process to replace the nicad on the motherboard. ---- Overall, I'd say do it and don't worry about it. I think the main issue is battery acid damage to a machine, unused for a long period of time. The reality of having acid damage is greater then the probability of having to replace the nicad down the road. Hope this helps. -Rick-
