Subj: REPLY TO MSG #4111 (NI-CADS)

I used ni-cads for several years, but I didn't have MP then. I do use MP now
and will make very sure that I do not use ni-cads when number crunching. I am a
little surprised that the M100 would show a file closing problem, since any
program could operate with a data file in main memory. No intermediate buffer
would be necessary (like on the IBM PC). Shutting down the system should
preserve any and all memory because of the memory backup battery. That is the
theoretical part.

In reality, I've seen M100's trash their memory due to power system shutdown on
a handful of occasions. I've heard that the MP ROM pulls some tricks when it is
running (can't elaborate right now), so who knows? The best thing to do, since
there will never be a bug-fix ROM, is to avoid the cause of the problem.

Thanks for sharing your find.
