You don't have to "rip out" the old modem.  Just connect an external,
whatever-speed modem to the RS232C port on the back edge.  But, if you're
really intereted in working one into the "bix" then you're in for a lot of
work.  The Model 102, unlike the Model 100, has very little room inside the
box.  Besides, you can purchase small, high speed modems from a number of
companies catering to the booming laptop market.  I'd check out vendor ads in
Portable Office magazine.
