Subj: REPLY TO MSG #2391 (RIP DR.A)

Drew,

Yeah, Brenda called my attention to that in the paper the day it happened. It
really affected me. It was his non-fiction books that really turned me on to
science in high school and his fiction, particularly his short stories and
collections of short stories-I have one of stories from the Soviet Union-that
really powered my imagination even when it was starting to be dimmed by
illness. The article about him noted that his 3 laws of robotics had not been
broken in fiction until the Terminator came along. I'm not sure if that's
completely true but it put those movies in a different light than before.

I was quite saddened by his passing and wonder if there is going to be anyone
to pick where he and Arthur C. Clarke and Robert Heinlein and the like left off
when they're gone. But if I remember right Heinlein is gone as well(?) That
leaves only Arthur C. Clarke. I know there are others but but I never really
got as attached to them as these three. I'm gonna miss Dr. Asimov for a long
time. Jon.
