Subj: TERMINAL SPEED

Well, YOU may assume a terminal speed of 9600 baud on a Unix system for a
directly connected terminal, and it may even be the default value for the type
of Unix machines you are using. However, Unix is an old enough operating
system that I wouldn't be surprised if there were systems out there configured
with slower speeds (by default). Of course, the system administrator can set
the default terminal speed on hir system. Therefore, I think it would be a
mistake to call 9600 baud a "standard"--I doubt highly you'll find this
documented in any of the generic Unix documentation. [Hmmm. I wonder if I
could write Unix on an option ROM.]
