Tracy,

Rick suggested I drop you a message and ask you if you have a Toshiba laptop
with the original DOS and Manuals, also if you would consider loaning or
selling it to me.

As you may know from a thread I've been having, I just bought a used Toshiba
T1200 at a very good price, except it came with an unlabeled disk which I
discovered contained a version of DOS specific for compact computers. There
were no DOS files on the hard disk except the Command.Com and the two invisible
files. Evidently, the original owner, before she sold it to the person I
bought it from, "lost" the original DOS, all the manuals, and formated the hard
disk using this Compact Comp. DOS disk. Some of the DOS commands request
insertion of a Compact Computer System Disk!!! Toshiba told me that I need a
specific Toshiba DOS, an MS-DOS which they have licensed and modified to work
specifically with Toshiba machines. This Toshiba DOS will allow access to the
full 1 meg. RAM, allow setting the serial Com port, effect battery saving
programs, files, etc. Toshiba's agent is selling DOS 3.3 for $77 and DOS
4.01 for $99. That seems awful high considering MS DOS 5.0 upgrade is running
for about $50-60. Toshiba says that plain MS-DOS would not be able to address
the specific mechine needs of a Toshiba; that it would not be able to do what
need to be done to make best use of my machine. The Toshiba T-1200 is an 8086,
20 meg hard, 720 floppy portable which I will use mostly with WordPerfect 5.1
and maybe a little Lotus 1-2-3.

I would appreciate any insights or help you can give me.

Thanks,
       +Rick+
