Earl:
        I've had that same thing happen to me.  Put new batteries in your
TPDD2, even if you are using it off of an AC adaptor.  Also, check the cable
connections to make sure all is well there, i.e., solid connections, no kinks,
etc.
 
        That's about all I can add.  I know that Robert Benson, our online
librarian, has twiddled with TPDD2's and fixed a few.  Maybe he can shed some
light on your situation.  -Rick-
