Subj: COLD START RECOVERY TIP
This may not be news to many of you, but what the heck... A tip for recovering from cold starts for Ultimate ROM II users: Keep an ASCII version of your favorite DOS program on a TPDD or TPDD2 disk, along with whatever programs you use most. After a cold start, in BASIC enter CALL 63013,1 - as usual - to bring up UR-II again. Go into T-Word and, with your disk drive connected and turned on - disk in place - press the "Disk" function key. Even though no DOS is in memory, it'll still allow access to all ASCII files on disk. Cursor to your ASCII version of the DOS program and hit ENTER. Go into the T-Word print menu and "print" a copy of your DOS file to RAM. I'd suggest first changing the line length to maximum (250, I think) to accommodate long lines in BASIC. Exit UR-II. Convert your DOS program to .BA, .CO, or what-have-you. Now you've got quick access to your other stuff on disk. No, this won't recover anything that was lost during the cold start - but you did remember to save frequently anyway, right?!? <Lex>
