Subj: F KEYS

When the Mac first came out, Steve Jobs had a phobia about F Keys. He felt it
would make the Mac too much like IBM. There were some hidden key board
equivilants, but they were mostly hidden and undocumented. Programers began
putting in more key board short cuts (Apple's term to avoid IBM sounding "F
Keys") to move away from the clumbersome "mouse only" mentality. Finally as
the IBM phobia began to fade, an "Extended Keyboard" for use with MS-DOS type
programs was introduced. However, the "Standard" none-built-in keyboard is
still the supplied lower cost item. Most business people I know however pay
the extra $$$ and buy the "Extended" model or IBM style clone keyboard.
