Daniel: To answer your question as simply as possible, I'd have to say that
swapping a 80286 processor for the 8085 is a REALLY BIG technical undertaking
and would not, in any stretch of the imagination, be a plug and go operation.

I'm not saying it's impossible.  I am saying that it's just not practical
unless micro electronics circuit design, and event-level machine language
programming are your hobbies and you are really, really, really good.

As to which model, 100 or 102, would be best, I'd say the Model 100.  The 100
would be a whole lot easier to rework then the 102 since the 102 was
manufactured using surface mount technology.

That's my point of view.  Perhaps others will see this differently.  Gee...
wouldn't it be nice to just buy a little thing you could pop into a Model 100
and turn it into a 286?  Wow... wonders upon wonders...  -Rick-
