Stephen,
Admittedly, trying to read a story filled with the allusions and illusions
and zugma of an intoxicated author, while you yourself are sober and serious,
might be akin to riding a bicycle built by Tulose le Trek on a course laid out
by Helen Keller...."Just what were they thinking and how can I follow through
or even should I.
(Also like reading many messages here when they're generated late at night or
before the morning coffe kicks in.)

Not to say we should ignore any author that isn't "politically correct". Let
an editor check the spelling and see if the work "reads". If it doesn't "read"
then maybe the work should be in a different medium. Think of Vonnegut's
"Slaughter House Five" or "Clockwork Orange". Think of "Finnigan's Wake" where
we got the word "quark". Think of talking with children or old folks or
anybody during a funeral and you get images and thoughts but not whole pages.
Think of poetry or children's books with a picture with each paragraph or MTV
or greeting cards or Hollywood..... words used to create "instant" emotions
without the long work on either author or reader to create an entire
tapestry..... but, do the little images somehow connect when you've got them
all inside your head and you see it as a whole/holistic tapestry called life,
created in the author's world, for you to just visit?????

And to think that I fell asleep through the entire quarter I took Eng 110:
English Literature.
But do you need lit background to talk on and bend people to your line of
thought?

     -Me? Manipulative?
