ARC is a compressed file format--one of many--in the MS-DOS arena. Needless to say, ARCed files are no in ASCII; and neither are ZIP files, etc. You could, of course, download these compressed files using the xmodem protocol to your Model 100 (if you come online using one of the telcom programs from the library that contain the xmodem algorithum) but once transferred the file is useless to you. However, if you come online via a MS-DOS computer and use xmodem to transfer a ARC or ZIP file to your computer, you will need an uncompress program to break out all the parts. Compress and uncompress programs are available from any of the shareware vendors as well as on those BBS's that also provide ACR and ZIP files. Also, I believe the the PK series is available commercially--a good investment if you're into that sort of thing. -Rick-
