Here's a response to a recient fax... Ron Watson San Antonio TX I was given the above number to contact you folks by the local Radio Shack Computer Store. I will be in the Bay Area tomorrow and wold like to contact you concerning a problem I am having with an external disk drive. Please call or fax me and let me know how I can contact you and discuss this problem. -- I replied by letter and included a catalog since he was not yet a member... Ron: I'm just now getting to your fax of the 23rd. I receive around 100 messages daily and do what I can to keep up, but replys, except for e-mail, are not instant. At least you know that we are alive. To your question about repairing your disk drive: Allow me to express a variety of issues. 1) There were two portable disk drives, the Tandy Portable Disk Drive (TPDD) and the Tandy Portable Disk Drive 2 (TPDD2). Both drive models were OEMed by Brother Corporation. 2) It is important, these days, that you protect your investment. For years, I've oftentimes suggested that Model "T" users duplicate their important components, i.e. 2 computers, 2 disk drives, etc. 3) We usually have both drive models available. 4) Tandy repair centers are the "only" repair source. They have the diagnostics necessary to do the job. Without the diagnostics, the drive can not be aligned and tested. Always call around to find out "which" repair center has a TPDD/TPDD2-knowledge technician. 5) FYI: There is a fuse in each drive that, when blown, renders the drive inoperative. Always check the status of fuse before spending bucks for a repair. The down side to this is that you must remove the case from the drive to get at the fuse. Getting the case back together is much like a Chinese puzzle. Hope this helps...
