Continuing about CIS ... I agree that it is not CIS's fault that their system
is considered hard to use by many, especially new users. To allow access by a
wide variety of computers, a text-based command system is mandatory. After all,
CIS was started when many people only had "dumb" terminals and modems. CP/M was
king (I know, what's that?) and there was no standard computer. The carrot used
to learn your way around CIS is that knowing where you are going saves you
valuable $$$/minute online time. I use both CIS and GEnie once per week for
about 30 minutes each and find their computer services very useful.
. As far as downloading, I have no trouble with using the M100. I perform only
ASCII transfers, since I have not found an M100 xmodem that'll run reliably for
me. A trick I use is to get through the CIS prompts to the last prompt,
protocol, I think, and then activate DL on my M100. All I need to do then is
hit the enter key, which completes the prompt answer that I typed in
previously.
