Hang in there. Don't let your tears fall, just yet.

Although I am sad to report a death, I am just as happy to report a rebirth.
What died? What's reborn?

On 3/1/97 the 8mhz XT that served as this host since 1987 was replaced by a
newer model; a 16mhz 80386. The XT saw better daze. It was running just fine
but the power supply's fan had gone a few months back and lately I discovered
how rare XT parts were. It got me thinking... a scary activity, indeed.

In fact, lots of things got me thinking, these last few weeks, as component
after component in 4 of the 7 computers in the lab started flacking out.
Drives were going away, power supply fans where hitting the wall--my whole
sense of well being was quickly fading away. It made me sick to think that the
very foundation of my life, my power, my control, had degraded into an old,
rusty hulk of shamless technology. I was mad as hell and was not going to take
it any longer.

Deadlines were upon me and resources scarce but I couldn't wait. It was time
for drastic measures and moments counted. So, like the name-sake of the
musical group, I fixed and upgraded ... "Everything but the girl."

Yes! I did the whole sha-bang, spent sha-molies of moola, and smacked those
puppies until, once again I stood apart from the world. AHHhhhh Ha! Haaaaa!
King again. I am king once more... on top of the heap... in control and will
never let ageing technology get the best of me, again. Never I tell you.
NEVER!!! AHHhhhh... Ha! Haaaaa....!

May the bytes be with you... -Rick-

Note from Rick's little voice inside: Sheesh! Who pulled his chain, let him
out of the bag, popped is cookie? So he fixed some pieces of junk with newer
pieces of crap. Big frick'n deal. Frankly, he drinks way too much coffee
w/coco. I don't even want to be associated with him when he's this way. I'm
out'a here...
