Hi James ... and thanks for the kudo's.

Regarding the 2400 baud modems on the Club 100 BBS. The answer is simple. For
years (since 1979) I've used Hayes Smartmodem 1200 modems. Somewhere in the
late 80's ... I forgot when, now ... I switched to 2400 baud modems ... and
that's when problems started happening. To make a long story short, I finally
get a hold of some Hayes, "v-series ULTRA smartmodem 2400 with Express 96" ...
whatever that means! Anyway, the bottom line is that only the Hayes answered
incoming 300 baud modems correctly, especially the Model 200's 300 baud modem.
The BIG DEAL was that the OWL units (...special data collecting Model 100
computers built by EME Systems, Berkeley, CA, used in the field) couldn't get
online ... and I get "paid" to keep this BBS up for some of those accounts.

A faster modem??? Hold on ... there "may" be a way to give you "at least" 9600
baud with compression. I have 4 of the Hayes modems online, connected to a
4-port digi bard. Line 3 rarely gets used and line 4 almost never. I could
"risk" setting up line 4 to connect a US Robotics Courier HST Dual Standard
14.4 modem. This is not a "priority" so I don't have the time to mess with
this idea but will make a note to look into it in the future.

In the mean time, here are the numbers of this BBS:

 510-939-1246
 510-939-1365
 510-939-1366
 510-939-1367

Again, all numbers are connected to Hayes ULTRA 2400 modems at this time.
"When" I switch line 4, and "if" it works, I will make an announcement.

Thanks for asking. I'm looking forward to getting some time to play with this
idea. -Rick-
