A question came to me on The Dock! via internet email. My reply prompted his reply to which I reply again ... this time with details ... --- In reply to your message ... > Further to my e-mail message of May 30 regarding the compatibility > of TPDD1 and 2 drives, I should clarify that I have recently purchased > a 2nd hand TPDD2 that came with TS-DOS. Thus, at issue is whether using > TS-DOS to format diskettes on either drive, can the disks be read (and > written to) by both drives? My interest is in maintaining two drives, > one at work (with my business PC and lapdos) and one at home (with my > M102 and second drive). And, while I have already purchased the one > TPDD2, I have an option to purchase a second drive, a TPDD1, in good > condition. Okay ... now I know the details and can respond/assist. First, some facts: TPDD: format/read/write/kill/rename tpdd disks, only TPDD2: read tpdd disks, format/read/write/kill/rename tpdd2 disks TS-DOS v4.0: all the above on either tpdd/tpdd2 drives LAPDOS II: all the above on either tpdd/tpdd2 drives Sharing files between 2 tpdds, or 2 tpdd2s is easy. Sharing files between a tpdd and a tpdd2 is a pain. The tpdd2 can read tpdd disks but not write them, and the tpdd can neither read nor write tpdd2 disks. On the other hand, TS-DOS v4.0 and LAPDOS II will control both the tpdd and tpdd2 drives and related media. That's it! Please use this information to make your decision. At your service ... -Rick-
