Subj: REPLY TO MSG #1710 (SARDINE AND SUPERROM)

Dear Harv,
Thanks for your contribution to ROM compatability. There were (and still
are!) a lot of combinations I haven't tried. I really appreciate your effort
and success at tracking down this bug. I'm just wondering why it is that
Sardine gets confused like that. Why doesn't it look for the WORD+ file by
name in the directory, instead of picking a dictionary at random out of thin
air. I like that too. Nothing like a dictionary that spells words at random.
hmmm, Random House. Noooo.

I didn't understand what you said about SUPER being "deleted" instead of
"invisible"? Would it be possible to modify your program to search for all
"ROM" trigger files, not by name but by attribute, and scatch them before
calling N2X. "SUPER" does appear as a ROM trigger file in the directory area
doesn't it? I didn't understand what you said about it not being found there,
but on quick glance it looks to me like your program scans the directory for
the SUPER name. How about just scanning for ROM programs in general by type
(=B0h, 176d). There are a couple of high memory areas used by the ROM checking
routines and by the ROM installation stuff. All the ROMs make use of that area
in different ways, giving ample opportunity for clashes. I don't see how just
having the SUPER name invisible has such a super effect. Maybe there is
something in that high memory area that checks for SUPER on the menu and sets
some hooks if it is still there. Notice that some of the TS ROMs are easy to
de-install, simply by typing KILL"xxx".
  Best regards, Tracy :(eme):
