Okay, that's even better, i.e., let the entrants be the judges. How about if Robert and I be the final word, or tie breakers. Prize ideas are easy. How about giving "winners choice" of option ROM. Winners being the best in each category. There should also be something for everyone who enters, and something special for the 2nd and 3rd place in each category. I think the contest will be a winner as long as we get enough participation--my only concern, really. Before starting the contest I should discuss marketing it through Portable 100, PCM and Computer News 80 magazines--where we advertise. Perhaps they will assist in some way, i.e., publish the winners, provide ad space, present other ideas, etc. The reason I bring up the magazines is to, yet again, make sure everyone knows that we [Club 100] are a user group for EVERY laptop owner, not just those that come online--the elite! Club 100 is not just an online service, and never was just an online service. Compuserve's M100SIG, however, is JUST online. This is not bad. I'm simply making a point that I've made many times before. The M100SIG has had several programming contests over the years. All of them drew large participation. The results were always interesting and exciting. But, only those online to CIS were able to get at the programming, directly. Yes, the programming got out. Many, many, many SIG members downloaded it and passed it around. But, the management of the SIG missed, and continues to miss the golden opportunity, i.e., online support PLUS mail, phone, fax, and physical meeting support. Now, if Club 100 were the manager of the M100SIG, I assure you that Model 100 interest would increase drastically. And, I surmise that, if Club 100 managed the M100SIG on CIS, Tandy would probably show interest in "upgrading" the 102 into the much talked about 103! Hmmmm... I've wondered from the subject, huh? Sorry. It must be Monday morning. I get a little left of center on Mondays... where's that cup of coffee I had setting around here? -Rick-
