Subj: CFRJMK 2.0

Is anyone interested in cryptology? Version 2.0 of CFRJMK has been uploaded,
in nine files. The MS-DOS version has finally been compiled (as CFRJMK20.EXE,
from CFRJMK20.BAS which now runs under QBASIC as well as GW-BASIC), and there
are significant changes in the Tandy and NEC versions (CFRT20.BA and CFRN20.BA,
uploaded in ASCII with .DO extensions). The documentation is now in five parts
(CFR2D1.DO through CFR2D5.DO).

While not compatible with version 1, the new programs are compatible with each
other so that one may, e.g., encrypt in the field with a Kyocera notebook and
subsequently decrypt in MS-DOS.

CFRJMK is neither fast nor particularly easy to use, but it allows unlimited
key size, is very flexible and, in "one-time" mode, can produce absolutely
unbreakable ciphertext (which commercial programs cannot do).

There are serious moves being made by Big Brother to outlaw the use of
encryption except by a government system (such as "Clipper Chip") with the
government holding the keys. (How would pre-encryption by programs such as
CFRJMK be prevented?) It's a sad commentary on the current regard for personal
freedom that there should even be a debate about the right to use secure
encryption. While not many people may use encryption, loss of the right to
have absolute privacy in communications and stored records would be a major
milestone in the evolution of the American police state. The night and the fog
are coming: get your ciphers while you still can.
