The booster pack uses the concept of RAM-disk. The MDL 100 is still limited to
manipulation of 32K of RAM at any one time (I won't get into how the I/!M pin
could be used) but there's no reason that 32K can't be stored in several
different places; tape, disk, CD, BBS, MicroTardis Paks, RAMs. All but the
last take a discernable time to transfer/load into your working memory (working
directory?), all except the last two. Most of them require peripheral devices,
but how far is your link from your machine to the periphery of your domain?
How about if the addition (out of Working Directory) RAM was located only
centimeters away and accessed over the machine's system bus. That's what the
booster pack has. In fact, some of those 'other directory' RAMs can actually
be ROMs. Now all you need is a table as to where in the Booster Pack the
desired files start and you can access them. Some you have to move intor your
'working directory' or 'work space' some can be invoked without the copy over.
It's the daemons that do the sorting and the shuffling. Let's keep them in
fresh alkaline AAs forever.
