I'll add a few more bytes to this pile. The LCD on a Model 100 and Model 102
is a 600 baud device. Thus, even at 1200 baud, your effective transfer rate
for reading text online is slowed to 600 baud. But, 600 is faster then 300
baud; by a factor of 2! This "fact" holds true even if you use a 2400 or
higher modem.

Is there an advantage to using a faster modem then 300 baud, other then
doubling text reading speed? Yes. If you download and upload, using one of
the xmodem protocol programs, the effective trasnfer rate will be closer to the
higher baud. Why? Because, the xmodem program does not display the
transferring data to the LCD. Thus, the LCD is not factored into the transfer
rate.

Another thing to remember,--and I'm sure I'll get some flack on this--is to
practice text capture online, for reading offline. And, prep text uploads
offline for uploading online. Spend as little time online as possible. Watch
the pennies, and the dollars will not overwhelm you. -Rick-
