Mark:
As we talked about on the phone, you are using two phone lines at your
office to connect your Model 100 to your DOS machine. You're running TELCOM
through an external modem on your Model 100, out one phone line and back in
another phone line to your DOS computer running PROCOMM. So far so good.
However, you're getting a { character on a regular basis. Right? The mystery
is the fact that you are going through a PBX at your office. A PBX (private
branch exchange) is a multiuser computer system where phones on desks are known
as terminals. Terminals on a multiuser system get polled on a "regular" basis.
I contend that your { character is the result of your terminal (phone) being
polled.

There are two ways around this problem. 1) Don't go through the PBX,
i.e., get another phone line. 2) Use Konexx to go through the PBX (see our
flyers for information on Konexx).

Back to the subject at hand. If your purpose is to have your DOS
machine in host mode and be able to modem into it from the outside world, then
you should should use a dedicated phone line to the DOS computer. If, however,
your purpose is to simply transfer files between your Model 100 and your DOS
computer then there is only one efficent method. The very, very, very best and
easiest, and factest, and fool-proof method is via Lapdos II (see our flyers
for information on Lapdos II). I will stack this club's reputation on the
value of Lapdos II for moving files between a DOS machine and a Radio
Shack/Tandy Model 100, 102, 200, TPDD, TPDD2 or NEC PC8201a computer; or drive
in the case of the TPDD and TPDD2.

Hope this helps... -Rick-
