Subj: REPLY TO MSG #299 (HELP)

-----
Let's focus on the diskettes, first. The TPDD1 and 2 will successfully use
double sided, double density disks but will not use high density disks.
Furthermore, it is possible to get a bad batch (or box) of disks. Also, I,
personally, DO NOT use Radio Shack/Tandy disks. We use generic disks for
absolutely everything here at Club 100.

Solution #1: Try a totally different box--brand--of disk.

If your drive has gone bye bye you will need to confirm this so as to detail it
to Tandy repair, as well as to check if they actually repaired the drive. But,
before you take it in, check out some obvious areas even though you think that
they may be okay. 1) Install new batteries (even though you may be using an AC
adaptor). 2) Take all the kinks out of the cable, and or try a second cable if
you have one (your local RS store may have an extra). 3) Clean the head with
alcohol using a lint-free applicator, i.e., pipe cleaner. 4) Make sure the
drive is not around any strong electrical fields, i.e., TV set.

Solution #2: Check out the obvious and clean what can be cleaned.

Good luck... -Rick-
