---- The nibble idea has merrit. Think, for a moment... she said she was going through a university computer (file server). Now, what sort of equipment do "universities" use for file servers? Most likely, the file server is an IBM mainframe or NEC VAX. The operating system may be AS400 (that's actually the name of the product line, not the DOS) or Unix, i.e., she was trying to log onto the Internet--initially designed for Unix (UUCP sites). My thinking involved non-TTY emulation, since both the IBM mainframe and the DEC Vax defaults to non-TTY emulation, so I suggested she check this out. Your thinking is also along a solid line since non-micros use BPS, not baud, and sometimes opt for 2 stop bits on a 6-bit byte. In either case, this might explane the 0000 nibble theory. At this point, we'll just have to wait for Mary Ann to check back in, capture our responses, check them out, and report back. I hope she does. This problem is interesting. -Rick-
