Carroll,
The altlcd, otherwise known as the previous screen buffer, is used by the
TELCOM program. If you enter the TERM mode in TELCOM and a bunch of stuff
scrolls by, you can only see 8 lines on screen at once. But if you press the
F1 key, the 8 lines that were on the screen previously, the 8 lines that just
scrolled off, will appear like magic. Pressin F1 again will get you back the
current 8 lines. Those 8 lines of information are stored in the walah!
previous screen buffer. It is 320 bytes of memory starting at 64704. That
memory is used only by the TELCOM program, and about 60 bytes at the end are
used when you are scrolling around the main model "T" menu. If you don't use
TELCOM, the 260 bytes starting at 64704 remain undisturbed. Lots of machine
language programs and ROM chips take advantage of that space as a "scratchpad"
You can use it as a scratchpad, too, if you are convinced that TS-dos and
Barcode are not going to use it. Most TS programs set up their own scrachpad
space in a fake BASIC program that they generate on the menu. I don;t know
about the barcode driver.
  hope this helps... Tracy
