Here's a project I'm working on. I'm looking for suggestions, and I plan to
share the results (or lack thereof) after a little experimenting.
My office has an HP LaserJet 2, with PC's hooked up to the parallel port. I
use my 102 at the office, and would rather switch than fight, so I hook up the
25-pin RS232 ports, switch the LaserJet menu from parallel to serial (thus
hogging the printer for myself, much to everyone else's consternation and my
amusement), and fire away at 19,200 baud.
Pretty cool, but I weary of walking all the way across the office to perform
this task. Also, since I've got a Booster Pak on my 102 with an internal 1200
baud modem hooked to the RS232 port, I'm a bit concerned about wearing out and
loosening the pins/sockets.
So here's my plan: install a Y-connector "permanently" to my 102's serial
port, leave the modem hooked to one, and one of Radio Shack's RS232-to-four
wire phone jack adapters to the other side of the "Y", then connect another
adapter to the LaserJet's serial port, borrow one of the many four-wire phone
lines that already litter my office, and presto! (I hope.)
Before I reinvent the wheel, has anyone already tried this?
Happy holidays and a much better '92!
