Thanks for you explanation, Ron--I have a much better understanding of the solar clock. I am still a little unclear about the rainbow display. You have the pinhole to the north and the hyperbolic aperture to the south. North of the tropics, the Sun is always going to be to the south. So I would expect the light to come in from the hyperbolic aperture, and then get diffracted by the crude prism, so that the rainbow is projected onto the viewer's retina. Is my understanding correct?
