Subj: REPLY TO MSG #2302 (TANDY 1400 2DR.)
Well, I went to buy the 1400 and even brought it home to work on it a bit. The end result was that I bought it back to the previous owner.... I was disappointed and it was not what I had expected. In addition to that, just when I brought it home, my phone ansewering machine was flashing. It was from the other Laptop offer I had been working with.... A Toshiba T1200 with a 20 meg hard disk and the owner lowered her asking price again. So far, she has lowered the price almost $400.00 and I may get her down a bit more. Now it's within my budget. I was disappointed with the 1400 LT, not because of the weight, but because of what it lacked. I had really taken for granted that all laptop or portables had MS-DOS on ROM and that all Tandy's had basic Desktop Softwear in ROM too so I could just turn it on and start working in text (clearly part of my M102 experience and background). Without DOS in ROM really makes me lose one of the drives and without any simple text program in ROM meant I would have to actually load a prgram and go through "the disk shuffle" I decided long ago after doing "the disk shuffle" on my old pre-hard drive Mac that I would not do it again. I was hoping to avoid a hard drive with a couple of 1.44 floppy drives, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen, especially if I get this Toshiba at a good price. Anyway, I decided that while the 1400LT may be a good back-up DOS computer for the money, I discovered I could get a much better computer for a few bucks more and still stay within my budget. Thanks for your imput :) +Rick+
