Subj: REPLY TO MSG #2634 (TRANSFER PROTOCOL)
Well, I tried the XModem for the Zodiac file transfer to dB and it seems to have worked out ok. I guess am just over cautious wanting to use the "best" protocol. From what I read in my WordPerfect Works manuel, it seems like the ZModem-Recover is the best way to go but this BBS doesn't seem to support it, unless I'm missing it. Here is what the WordPerfect Works Manuel says: "Each protcol has different advantages and capabilites. For example, Kermit has many advantages over Xmodem protocols, such ad improved error correction, but is usually slower than Xmodem. Ymodem protocols are faster than both Kermit and Xmodem, but Ymodem does not function well if you have a bad phone connection. Zmodem is faster than Ymodem, and Zmodem-Recover allows you to finish a download that abourted without resending the part of the file that was received correctly. You can even use Zmodem-Recover to finish a download taht was begun with another protocol. "You should use Zmodem or a protocol labelled "batch" when transferring more than one file at once. Protocols labelled with a "G" (such as Ymodem-G) should be used only if lyour connection to the other modem provides error correction. "The ASCII protocol allows you to transfer text files only, not binary files." WordPerfect Works for DOS User's Manual pp.328-329. I think I answered my own questions. Just goes to show, when all else fails, read the manual. +Rick+
