Okay, that makes sense. Modems differ in many ways; such as sound level. The
modems on this end need incoming modems which talk a bit louder then the older
modems I used to have online, i.e., Hayes Smartmodem 1200. The old modems
listened better--the new ones do not.

Sound level is rated in decibels (db). If I could, and I have tried, I would
purchase Hayes Smartmodem 2400 modems. The older Smartmodem 2400 series
listened for lower db incoming modems. They also did not incorporate all the
modern-day compression algorhythms--yet another problem for older modem
compatibility.

When you switched over to your old, Hayes 300 baud modem, you simply used a
modem with a louder voice. Perhaps using your Apple II with that Hayes modem
is the best way for you to communicate with the Club 100 BBS. -Rick-
