Subj: REPLY TO MSG #3740 (NEW 300 BAUD NOISE)
I understand you request, loud and clear. Robert and I worked on one of the setting on Thursday but after altering the setting, the modem we altered refused to acknowledge TBBS's init string and reset--not good. We put it back to TBBS recommended setting. The modems are fully Hayes compatible--that's right, they are not Hayes brand but rather Practical Peripherials 2400 baud v.22 bis modems. Also known as plain Jane 2400 baud modems. The modems are set up in the following manner: 1) I start by running a dumb terminal program called MODEMSET to pre-condition the modems. The strings reads as: AT&F&C1&D2&T5&W Then, within the configuration editor of TBBS I set a modem reset string, used by TBBS to reset the modem each time callers log off; getting it ready for the next caller. The string reads as: ATE0Q0X1V0M0 S0=1 S2=255 S7=20 Frankly, reading through my options, the setting are all straight forward. Ain't no fancy stuff going on. However, that doesn't alter the fact that lots of garbage is generated at 300 baud (Bell 103) log on. Here's an idea. Use 2 = signs in your autologgon string before the first ??. Example: CLUB100BBS:5109391246<==??first;last^M... etc. The equal signs represent a 2 second delay. At 300 baud operations, you are moving 30 characters per second. Thus, a two character delay will pass 60 characters. With 2 equal signs you will pass 120 characters. That should get you pass the garbage and to the end of the header with time to spare to prep for the question mark prompt. That may do it but I am open to suggestion, as always... -Rick-
