Subj: REPLY TO MSG #5383 (PRINTERS)

Serial printer cables are different than parallel printer cables.  For example,
my Model 100 transmits data on pin 2, receives data on pin 3, using 4,5, and 6
to communicate control signals:  this is the serial port. The parallel port
needs more wires:  8 wires to transfer bytes in parallel and 3 wires to
communicate control signals.
 
Usually, you will find parallel printers use a Centronics connector, and serial
printers use an RS-232 connector.
