True- there is no Standard terminal speed, but I believe that if you talk to a
lot of system administrators, that most terminals, when directly connected are
9600. They have been that way for a long time.
 
On the unix machine that I administer, you can see that setting a serial port
for attachment to a terminal, the defualt speed (i.e. unless you specify
OTHERWISE) is 9600.  THis machine is a mac f/x, runninv{ a/ux but hey, it is a
System 5 decendant.
 
Thats all I was trying to say- most users of terminals (directly connected are
used to about 9600 bps.'
