I don't think that Steve Jobs gave a rat's ass about IBM during the development
of the Mac. In fact, the Mac was the off-shoot of the Lisa which preseeded the
IBM PC by a few years. The concept of F keys (aka: Function Keys, n. Keys
found on the keyboard of a computer what perform various pre-programmed tasks.)
is actually incorporated into the Mac's operating system via the open and
closed Apply symbol modifier keys.

Again, I firmly believe that Apple Corp, under the control of Steve Jobs was
not competing with IBM in any way. They were [he was] doing his own thing the
way he and all the Apple gang "felt" it should be done. It was only after John
Scully was hired as CEO that Apple took on the "us against them" theme as a
marketing ploy. -Rick-
