I just happend to be sitting here when you called the other night. I noted the
reason for the DZWJ9 stuff. That character string is automatically generated
by your terminal program or modem when it connects to our modem(s). I've seen
this many times before, especially since the advent of the new compression
algorythms.

Before coming online, turn off all your compressions and make sure your
terminal program is set to 2400 baud. If this is too much to ask, simply hit
<enter> <enter> in response to the First Name? prompt. This will clear the
buffer for you to enter TIM, by hand.

Here's a trick. In stead of entering TIM <enter> HILBERG <enter>, enter
TIM;HILBERG <enter>. The ; symbol concatinates the two fields.

Thus, when your system throws the garbage, your log on will be ...

 First name? DZWJ9 <enter>
 Last name? <enter>
 First name? TIM;HILBERG <enter>
 Is this correct? Y
 Password ****** <enter>

Hope this helps... -Rick-

FYI: Since you are calling from non-510 area. I have a suggestion that will
save you money. The Dial-1 service on these lines are Excel
Telecommunications. If you switch your Dial-1 service over to Excel, you will
be charged 1/2 of Excel's already lower then the big three price.

If this interests you, call Carol Bross at 800-835-1699 x2794 or 510-938-4139
and tell Carol the following: "Rick Hanson suggested I ask you for a Service
Request Form, to switch my Dial-1 service to Excel."

Carol will ask you some questions, then send you a form. Fill out the form and
mail it in. Wait about 3 weeks. Then you, too, will enjoy greatly lower rates
when calling this service ... and others! (hint, hint)
