That's what I figured you wanted to do. I'll be honest with you. Using Model
100's for the application you've described will drive you insane. You've
briefly described a multi-user, database application similar to that developed
by Input Optics in Mountain View, CA, for the dental business. May I suggest
that, before you leap into Model 100 computing, you refine your
application-vision by looking at similar applications operating in dissimilar
operations. The time you take will be well worth it. I suggest that you call
Larry Faber, President of Input Optics and ask him about Modi; the name of
their system. Frankly, with some adaptation, Modi might be what you're looking
for; or at least it will provide useful ideas. Larry's number is 415 969 3108.
Simply tell Larry that you spoke with me, Richard Hanson. Larry knows me
through both my wife, Paula--she runs a Modi system in Berkeley for Dr. Robert
Fenske--and through my staff training of his company many years ago.

Another idea would be to get a copy of Byte Magazine at your local book store.
In the back pages are companies advertising bar code systems for office
management. Call a few of those and ask for details. Bar code operations on
some of these new systems is light years ahead of Model 100 bar code
operations.

Don't get me wrong. I like the Model 100 and all the simple things it does.
It's a great little computer with lots of potential. I'm simply saying that I
think you need to look at more complex configurations for the dynamics of the
application you've outlined. Your Model 100, however, will fit into other
parts of your personal operations just fine. -Rick-
