Subj: REPLY TO MSG #2647 (A FAVOR FOR THE DISABLED?)

Should I believe you? I don't know you. I am very sure you have no idea that
the overhead of this club's total operations is around $3,500 a month. We are,
as you will learn, much more than just a online service. Would giving you a $1
a month item (library access) hurt this club? And, can you afford $1 a month?
You've spent more than that on your last phone call over here... and not to
us... to the phone companies.

Let's, just for grins, say I give you library access because you're a hard luck
case; whatever. And, having saved $12, you will proceed to spend $$$ of long
distance calls downloading files. This does not make sense. Furthermore, you
presented several reasons for why I should give you something but said not one
word about what this club's membership will gain. Without specific, sincere
considerations to give and take I must decline your request. Perhaps you're
too used to receiving, and thus have lost the ability to even consider giving
more than you receive; regardless of your disability.

Again, I don't know you, other than having read one message from you. And,
based on this message I have responded by rationalizing the request, rejecting
it, then interjecting some harsh concepts. Now here's another concept I'd
like you to consider: You say your condition keeps you from working. That's a
bunch of used oats. I challange you to create one, stable, meaningful, minimum
wage job for another person in your community. I double dog dare you to
seriously consider meeting this challange. If you do, and you succeed, I will
"give" you one years' worth of library access on this BBS. I believe this to be
an equal, equitable trade. The ripple-effects of the dynamics are the same in
both cases, sir. Think about it. -Rick-
