Frank: I got your phone call a few weeks ago but have been up to my eyeballs in
BS (aka: Business Stuff) for weeks. Everything takes more time to complete
then it should right now. Anyway, here is an off-the-top-of-my-head discussion
on tokenizing and BBS up/down.

Microsoft (aka Bill Gates) invented the concept of tokenizing to save space in
memory on the first mirco-processors. A tokenized file contains fewer
characters then it's ASCII file equiventlant. I won't take the time right now
to discuss ASCII or tokens.

A stock Model 100/102/200 will transfer ASCII files only. ASCII files are
those files containing characters between character code 0 and 127 decimal,
i.e., 8 bit low characters. It will not transfer 8 bit high characters over
the phone lines. Tokenized files contain lots of 8 bit high characterss.

To convert a ASCII (.DO) file into a tokenized file...

 LOAD"filename.do"
 SAVE"filename.ba"

To convert a tokenized (.BA) file to a ASCII (.DO) file...

Start the .BA file and break it... ^C
 SAVE"filename.do"

All program files on this BBS are in ASCII eventhough they are indicated by .BA
in their extension. They are in .DO format (ASCII).

I'll stop here and let you think about these concepts and play for awhile.
Please feel free to ask any and all questions. There are no dumb questions.
Your question about ASCII and tokenized files and how to creat each one is very
important to us Model 100 users. Excellent question! -Rick-
