John... let's tak this by the numbers...

 > This should, I thought, be a conference message for "all" but read that was
reserved for Model T discussion & generally fouled up there entirely.

No biggie... I'll take care of it... in fact, I'll use your message as
feed-stock for this reply then move everything into the conference for you.

 > I am looking for a hard drive for my Tandy RLX 1000. RS discontinued them
last year. Jeff Cohen suggested I ask the other members of Club 100. It's not a
model T, so I'm not sure how welcome the question may be...

That's an okay question. We don't have to stick to just Model T talk around
here. No biggie!

---

 > I appreciate the answer regarding my question of whether my M 100 can answer
the phone & I now have the same question regarding the RLX. The modem I have in
it is a Practical Peripherals PM2400 w/ MNP (Microcom Net Protocol).

Your RLX and PP modem will do just fine. Set it up and go for it.

---

 > The DeskMate software's baud rate allowance tops at 9600, which is high
enough for me, but some of these new BBSs. I like reliability, but am curious
to use the high rates a couple of times & also to try out the MNP in Ymodem\G
protocol. Other software would require me then to have a hard drive.

The TELCOM program in the DeskMate software may or may not have an answer
mode--I don't know. Suggest you look around for the shareware version of
Wildcat BBS. In Fact, call Software Labs at 1-800-569-7900 and get their
latest catalog. I buy from these folks. Good stuff--totally virus free.

---

 > Frankly, this limited PC frustrates me so much that sometimes I think I
should sell it & get a maxed out M 200 & chipmunk while they're available. I
fortunately have only $350.00 invested in the RLX & that includes the modem. 1
meg ram & Tandy VGM-225 color monitor.

If you're frustrated then switch. Go for it. There's lots of better, faster,
newer stuff on the streets these days--and you're right: You don't have much
into that comptuer. Dump it! Go for something else.

---

 > I have an overwhelming number of questions & am shy of writing Tandy w/
them. And their prices also scare me off.

You're not the only one overwhelmed . . . Tandy suffers from the same thing.
And don't bother writing Tandy. I would doubt that you would receive a
reply--let alone an reply that counts. Trust me on this one: From a guy who
could spend 24 hours a day writing reply letters . . . it's a big, big, never
ending job. I like answering questions but am overwhelmed, myself.
Letter--paper--just stacks up. It's all I can do just to keep up on the
e-mail, faxes and voice mail--and my customer base is very small compared to
Tandy. Consider the millions of Tandy customers that write letters. Ain't no
way they can handle it all. No freeking way!

You should be scared about Tandy prices. Bottom line: It's not worth buying
from Tandy at almost any cost, i.e., no support, over priced, and... there is
always something different (non-standard) about their stuff that pulls you back
into Tandy stores. I am not a Tandy fan in this regard. They are okay at
other things but not computers. Sorry!

---

 > Is there a 1.44 meg floppy drive (external, of course) for the model T's?
I'd ask Nuge but he's heard from me enuf already & Mr. Globman scares me a
little. What to do?

No, there is no drive made for the Model 102 beyond the TPDD/TPDD2 series--and
the Chipmunk works only on the Model 100--unless you can find one of the
special Model 200 versions--and most Munks are dead.

Nuge is usually good about answering questions but I can understand that
Globman might get a little pushed about answeing Model T questions these
days--he's off into other interests. Don't get me wrong. Paul's programming
is excellent. I'll give him that but his human relations truns me off. He's
probably a nice guy to his friends but I've never counted myself in that
circle.

That's it for now. Hope this helps... -Rick-
