Subj: REPLY TO MSG #6836 (FAST MODEMS)
For me, 9600 bits per second access can wait. Leave testing the modems with the owls at the bottom of your to do list. Hey - I can't read at 960 characters per second. It's just that a client "upgraded" from 2400 b.p.s. to a 28,800 b.p.s. modem. Had to redefine the autologon because the "faster" modem is a lot slower at granting cut-through after rate negotiation. By the time it cuts-through, the opening screen of this BBS has already begun. So it was looking for stuff that had gone by before cut-through. Love all this upgrade stuff. Must cast my vote for Alfred E. Nueman today. He's the old cartoon bafoon from Mad magazine. I think his attributes are the sum of the top three candidates: His "What? Me worry" attitude is same as Clinton's. His do little or less "actions" mimic Dole. And he looks a lot like Perot. So once more my vote is a write-in for Alfred E. Nueman! Clear skies.
