Dear Robert,
I didn't know that going to the MENU and back automatically set the string
space allottment to 256, but I see that is sure does. If you're in BASIC and
CLEAR0 or CLEAR1000, the result is the same; when you go to the MENU, the
system reclaims that space. Either way you see the same free memory. When you
go back into BASIC, the 256 bytes are set aside. The "Bytes free" message when
you first enter BASIC 256 less than the bytes free on the main menu. Thanks
for the tip, Robert!
   CLEAR256,MAXRAM:NEW:MAXFILES=1:MENU
   can be simplified to:
   CLEAR,MAXRAM:NEW:MAXFILES=1:MENU
right? or are we still being silly?!
