Subj: REPLY TO MSG #369 (MODEM AGAIN)

The graphic characters are the result of "something" screwing up
communications.  Here's a check list look into:
 
 [] Stat setting should be M8N1E,20 pps (model 100/102) or M8N1ENN,O,T (model
200)
 
 [] Take all other phone equipment off the line you're communicating on, i.e.,
answering machines, portable phones, etc.  All that "other" equipment adds to
the resistance of that line.
 
 [] Increase the gain on the modem potentiometer found on the mother board.
The "pot" is a little, blue round thing with a phillips screw driver cut out on
the top.  Turn it all the way counter clockwise.  It will turn about 1/4 turn.
 
 [] Check the leads of your direct connect cable for broken wires.
