Hi, Derwood,

I rechecked my download of LPM, which ran fine, and compared your notes with
LPMDOC. Sounds like you've done everything right in your attempts to run the
program. The problem, more than likely, is that one of the program files has
become corrupted.

Xmodem transfers often add "garbage" characters to .DO files, including ASCII
versions of BASIC programs - just a side effect of its error-checking. If the
program is converted from ASCII to BASIC without first stripping out the
garbage it'll sometimes crash when run. Granted, this is less likely with LPM
because the files were in .BA and .CO format when you downloaded them.

However, it's worth double checking. First, be sure your program files are the
correct length: LPM.BA=12,499; LPM.CO=6,736; LPMDAT.CO=777. If they do check
out OK there's still the possibility that a POKE or DATA statement was altered
slightly during transmission. This may be a result of downloading these
particular files through your PC, but since I've never tried this I really
can't say for sure.

What strikes me as odd about your experience is having the Top, End and Execute
addresses, followed by an ?OM message, appear when you try to run the program.
The only times I've ever had this happen is when I've tried to LOADM .CO files
from tape, which I've given up on. Now when I want to archive .CO files to
tape I first convert them to .BA using CO2BA, and sometimes even convert the
.BA to ASCII, which seems to cause the fewest save and load problems with tape.

The wonderful world of Model T computing. You have to have a taste for
problem-solving to think of this as fun! Of course, PCs are no better... just
different problems.
