In response to your cold start questions... > Rick recently encountered a cold start problem. We've all been there ... many times ... and thus share a common bond. > 1) Computer is mdl 102, with 24k > 2) Running Ultimate rom > 3) tried namming a new do file from text computer locked up > 4) pushed reset button computer went blank. > My final answer was to cold start the 102. Hmmmm.... it doesn't sound like you attempted to do anything special. The cause could be just a random occourance. Keep some notes on all that you did prior to the cold start. Each time a cold start happens, take notes. Over time, if the problem continues, you'll have some depth into possible causes for a repairer to follow, i.e. Tracy or Myself. > Question, because the computer went blank and the reset button > seem to fail was unable to run cold start program before > shutting down memory power, is their any other fix? Yes. With the Model 102 on, hold down the <ctrl> and <break> keys, hold in on the <reset> key, hold a moment then release all keys. If that doesn't clear it, hold down on the <ctrl> and <break> keys, turn the unit off then back on. And if "that" doesn't clear it, you must turn off memory power and go get a bowl of ice cream ... actually just eat some with a spoon right out of the container ... trust me ... no one will notice! > Fortunately, I had recently backed up the info and did not loose much. C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S ... on proper backing up procedures. The best part of your thoughtfullness was to not fear a cold start. It don't get no better than that. Way to go, Tod! > Also do have any thoughts why 102 locked up When trying to name > a new .do file from Text? When I ran the Ultimate Rom II I was > able to name a .do file. Finally since the reboot I now can > name .do files from text. I, personally, do not see any "application" difference in naming a file from within an option ROM (URII) or the built in ROM (Text). Perhaps others here online will add their suggestions but for right now just use your 102 normally, maintain your backups and don't worry. Say, you might want to increase the 102's memory to 32K to give your unit a bit more breathing room. It's just a one chip jump from 24K to 32K, you know. At your service ... -Rick-
