----
Here's some ideas to try on your external modem...

Assuming you are using a straight-through cable, not null, and that the
switches on the left hand of your Model 100 are set to DIR and ORIG, and the
STAT setting in TELCOM is at 58N1E. Go into <f4>Term. At this point, you
should be able to talk to your modem.

Now, you've probably done all this. I just wanted to make sure these little
things are cover since this is a conference message and others will come into
this discussion in the middle.

Start by issuing the command AT <enter>. You'll note that I've indicated ALL
CAPS with the AT command. Some of the older modems only respond to ALL CAPS.
You should get an OK in response. If not, you could be right ... you're not
talking to your modem but at this point, there's too many variables to work
with. You need to isolate the modem.

Connect your modem to another computer, MS-DOS, Apple, etc. See if you can get
it to work on a non-Model T. If not, then the modem may be suspect--either
technically not functinoing or its dip switch or jumper settings are not set
correctly.

I'll stop here and let you play... -Rick-
