TS-RANDOM is, indeed, a neat program. I allows for random access to files on a
TPDD (not the TPDD2). The disk must be formatted with TS-RANDOM for it to
work. TS-RANDOM is available from us, on disk or ROM, for the same price as
our regular TS-DOS. TS-RANDOM included TS-DOS. Both TS-DOS and TS-RANDOM
manuals are included.

When you save files directly to disk from within TEXT the file is complete
overwritten by the new file--not appended. However, when saving files within
the TS-DOS menu, you are prompted to R)eplace A)ppend or C)ancel. Yes, if you
use the append feature, you can, indeed, make a file too large to bring back
into the computer.

Large .DO files may be broken up by reading part of them back in, via a BASIC
program that simply reads and appends bytes or strings and counts the bytes it
reads in. Do this a few times, each time skipping past the size (in bytes) of
the file you just read in, until you have read the larger file into several
smaller files. Of course, you must use the TS-DOS DOS-ON function.

Although I have not tried it, I believe that a preformatted file, with control
codes, is sent "as is" to the printer when printed directly within TS-DOS. The
result is that the codes and format of the file pass directly to the
printer--thus controlling the printer. -Rick-
