Subj: TAPE STORAGE

Here's the deal: I have a 102, a 200 and a NEC 8201a with Ultimate ROM II. I
also have a TPDD2 that I use with both Tandy's. Just for the heck of it, I
would like to be able to get some data stored and retrieved on cassette tape (I
also have a Tandy Computer Cassette Recorder). What happens EVERY SINGLE TIME
I try this, is that: 1) The tape will turn on and run and run past the program
I'm trying to load, or 2)(On the NEC) I will hear a "click" from inside the
computer; nothing happens on the cassette recorder and out of 28,650 or so
available bytes, I show something like 879 left, even though no programs have
been loaded on. When this happens, I notice that my IPL*DO which takes me
directly to UR2 has been wiped out and replaced with a bunch of garbage. Just
once--JUST ONCE--I would like to be able to load in a program from cassette
tape successfully, use it and then store it back onto tape in a slightly
modified form. Why, you ask? Well, I'm not sure, really, except maybe it has
something to do with the original Model T storage capabilites being closer to
tape than disk. Anyway, I've read all the manuals, I've checked all the
connections, I've fiddled with the volume control on the cassette recorder, all
to no avail. WHAT NEXT? Any help greatly appreciated. Live Well.
