Subj: CLUB 100 ON THE INTERNET
---- Okay, let's talk about having Club 100 on the Internet; seriously. First off, I'll move your comments from a thread named HELLO, started by Jeff Gonzales on a different subject ... which led into an Internet discussion. Your message to me was... > You are correct, Rick. I've posted a few times on USEnet newsgroups comp.sys.tandy (and comp.sys.laptops) about this valuable BBS and club. :-) If Club 100 were on the internet, and allowed TELNET access, then users could log in remotely. If it allowed ftp, people could transfer files. Of course, I would NOT enable *anonymous* ftp, since then, anybody would be able to get the files. :^> ---- Okay. I'm game for an analysis and will consider compensation/trade in Club 100 items and/or money. Let's assume Club 100 on the Internet would be a profitable venture. Let's also assume complete ignorane of the Internet on my part. In fact, assume nothing about myself, Club 100, Model T owners, etc. If you are serious ... you will be the official systems analyst. Your goals are: 1) Assess the current system and its dynamics. 2) Diagram and annotate the dynamics of Club 100 operations. 3) Provide workable (detailed) proposals for Internet access. 4) Be prepared to present your study at a physical meeting in Pleasant Hill at Melo's Pizza when you are ready. ---- Some of my concerns are: * What are the components (hardware, software, services), processes, benefits, negatives, and costs (initial and periodic) necesary to have this computer Internet-accessable? * What will Internet access do to the dynamics of Club 100? * Risk concerns me very little. I am mostly concerned about quality of service and levels of profit. Here's what you are working with at this moment: * An Intel 8088 @ 8MHz, 640K RAM * 40M harddisk C: = 13M out of 30M free, D: = 9M out of 10M free * 2, 5.25" 360K floppy drives * MS-DOS v3.1 * TBBS v2.2M * Sysom v1.1 * 4 port digi board from 1987 * 4, Hayes Ultra 24 modems * 4, PacBell lines with hunting from 939-1246 (AT&T LD but no LD ever used) ---- The door is open on this end for a study. I am interested but will not do the study myself. Thus, I've selected you, Comet, for your interest, knowledge, and skills. At this moment, I can think of no other person better suited to make this analysis: "Club 100 - Internet Accessable" Please think about this before throwing out any off-the-top-of-your-head ideas. If you are interested, and feel you are up to the task, you may proceed. -Rick- FYI: Yes, I am internet accessable via our new service: Port Chicago's Loading Dock (510)676-5359 up to 14400 baud. My internet address on pcld is: richard.hanson@pcld.com
