Subj: REPLY TO MSG #5363 (PRINTERS)
---- Excellent question about printers, i.e., can the Model 200 use a serial printer, and if so, how? All Model 100, 102 and 200 computers may print to both parallel and serial printers. Printing to the parallel printer is as easy as being in your .DO file and issuing a <shift><print> ... respond to the "width?" prompt with a line length such as 60 or 80 ... <enter>. Printing to the serial printer at, let's say, 1200 baud, is a bit more involved. While in a .DO file, select <f3> save to: ... respond with COM:58N1E ... <enter>. You will not be prompted for a line length so, unless you manually go through your document, adding <enter>s where you want line breaks, you'll get a pretty weird output. In both cases above, you will have to either use the linefeed program to turn your line feed generation on--which might not be a factor on the Model 200 ... it's been so long that I've forgotten--or set a dip switch on your printer to have the printer generate its own line feed when it received a carrier return. And yet, another thought is that you can imbed printer control characters via <shift><ctrl>P <whatever> ... B for bold, U for underline, etc. You'll need to cross reference your ASCII character chart with your printers control character chart. --- Now that I've said all that, I look at your Club 100 member-information on the tracking computer and note an entry that says you have the SuperROM option ROM in your Model 200. If this is still true, please refer to your WRITE manual. There you will find reference to setting the output to serial via a baud rate designation, i.e., COM:58N1E, or COM:88N1E, etc. ... all depending on the speed requirements of your serial printer. Furthermore, using WRITE on the SuperROM--as is the same for T-WORD on the Ultimate ROM II--you have absolute control over the destination device, i.e., parallel printer, serial printer, file, modem, or LCD. Complete control means complete control. Both the WRITE program on the SuperROM and the T-WORD program on the Ultimate ROM II create a default configuration file in your Model T. The printer conditions in the default file are set for Epson printers but may be changed to reflect the needs of any other manufacturers' printing device, i.e., Okidata, HP, Apple, etc. ---- Again, good question. And, it looks like your solution may already be in your machine via the SuperROM. Good luck... -Rick-
