Subj: REPLY TO MSG #468 (POWER PILLOW)

Your question regarding using the Power Pillow for both the computer and disk
drive is worth conference discussion. Yes, the PP will power both units
concurrently. However, it's been my experience that if I have both the laptop
and the TPDD connected to the PP, and I turn the TPDD on while the comptuer is
on, the computer shuts off. The initial power drain of the TPDD is too much.
Once on, however, they both work just fine. So, you turn on the TPDD first,
then the computer. Frankly, since the TPDD is only on only when needed, it is
wise to keep it off most of the time--this is the way I use mine, i.e., I'll
turn it on, use it, then turn it off again. The AAs in my TPDD last a long
time when used in this manner.

FYI: I built a square, 4 D cell battery holder for my TPDD. I don't use a PP
on my TPDD but do use D cells. The square, 4 D cell battery holder is still
available at RS. The inline 4 D cell battery was never available at RS. This
is the one I use to construct Power Pillows. -Rick-
