Mike: We haven't had a (gasp!) tape question in over 200 years. (grin) In your honor, and for all tape users, I've dug up the old "How to recover files from bad tape" file that we had back on the system in 1985. The original docs and programming were written by Larry Siebermann, Berkeley, CA, for publication in Rachael Holman's short-lived publication, "Truly Portable." With in days, the wiz of wizes, Bill Temple, founder of the Danville Tigers, greatly improved and reduced Larry's algorithm. I combined both Larry's and Bill's information into one file and placed it in the (6)TechRef area. The file is at the end of the list and is entitled TAPE.DOC. Go for it... it's good reading. If you've never downloaded from this BBS before and you are using a stock Model 100/102/200, here is a very short stroke by stroke to capture the TAPE.DOC file. 1) You'll need 10K bytes free to capture the entire file. 2) Goto (6)TechRef. 3) Select (D)ownload. 4) Tap your S key to stop the listing. 5) At the prompt enter p 3 and hit <enter> ...this sets your download protocol to ASCII no control codes. 6) At the prompt, again, enter TAPE.DOC but don't hit <enter> yet... 7) Tap your <F2> function key, respond with the word TAPE and hit <enter> ...this opens a capture file named TAPE.DO in your computer. 8) Tap your <enter> again to start the host. 9) When the prompt returns, tap your <F2> function key again to close the file on your end. 10) Lastly, hit <enter> to return to the menu and (G)oodbye to log off. Good luck... -Rick- PS: We haven't heard from Larry in years and Bill Templeton died of cancer in the winter of 87.
