I think you're missing something here about terminal mode and talking to the
modem.
 
1) Connect your modem to the RS232 port.
 
2) Set your <3>Stat to 68N1ENN <enter>
 
3) Go into terminal mode via <f4>Term.
 
Okay, you are now "talking" to your modem.  One thing that is on my mind, and
that you need to check out, is whether your modem requires ALL CAPS or will
respond to lower case commands.  To find out, do the following:
 
Will your modem respond to lower case commands?  Enter at<enter> and see if you
get an OK.  If yes, then your modem will respond to lower case commands.  If
no, then ther AT<enter> and see if you get an OK.  If yes, then your modem will
respond to UPPER CASE commands.  If you "still" get nothing then check your
cable--it must be a straight through cable not null--and check your stat for
the correct settings.  If all of the above is okay then you face something more
serious.
