Hmmmm... let me see if I understand what you have asked. You purchased a Model
2000 (one of the many almost-but-not-quite MS-DOS compatibles from the early
80's). You say you can transfer .DO files (ASCII) from your laptop to your
desktop but not from your desktop to your laptop. And, that you think it all
has to do with the transfer protocol. Also, you have tried xmodem and ymodem
to/from this system with your 2000 without success. Note: I'm avoiding the use
of upload and download because most get these terms confused. The terms up and
down refer to sending and receiving, respectively.

Well, let's see... first off, there are two different mathmatical methods used
in xmodem. One is CRC and the other is Checksum. A CRC xmodem program will
not mate to a checksum xmodem program. That "might" be one item to explore in
your use of xmodem.

Another point to make is you say that you can go from your laptop to your
desktop but not the other way around because you don't have an ASCII protocol
available. Well, if I understand this correctly, you issued a command on your
2000 to "capture to a file" incoming data (ASCII) from your laptop. Given that
fact, you might have a command available to "send from" a file, just like you
"received to" a file. The "send" equates to sending ASCII.

I'll stop here. Explore the "send" feature on your Model 2000 and report your
findings. It's been far too long since I played with a Model 2000, so other
then using general terms, I am SOL with specific details associated with that
particular equipment and programming. -Rick-
