Lex,
  Camera tread marks are, indeed, NOT desirable.  They come from being one step
slow when the director tells Camera 3 to truck in or dolly left.  In my case,
they cause a big jump in the video.
  
Actually, doing a lot of grunt work around theatre, radio, and television sets
for so many years, I just wear a tunic that advertizes Blanchar Pack Mule
Service and challenge anybody else to carry 2 4x8 foot sheets or 1/2" plywood,
two 6" Fresnels and fifty feet of 14-2 rubber jacketed cable between buildings.
I really shouldn't have to do that any more but what do I know.
  
I don't have any one position of preference around the theatre or television
station.  I can direct the video, edit video tape (from computer assisted down
to razor blade paint backdrops.  Just don't tell the union that I'm able and
willing to do it all.
