Subj: BOOSTER PAK QUESTIONS

Rick:

I have installed the Booster Pak on my M-100, and an now trying to learn to
use it. I have read the manual, but I still have some questions.

1) Can I install my Super-Rom 2 in place of one of the ram chips?

2) A program named DESK-LINK is mentioned in the manual. Is this program
currently available? Can LAPDOS be used in the same fashion?

3) If I understood the manual correctly, RAM is for storage and WORK is for
processing. So far all I have done is a little writing. It appears that I
can only begin a document in RAM. I can also edit it in RAM unless there is a
copy in WORK. If there is a copy in WORK, it must be edited in WORK.

4) Related to the above, but not exclusively, I sometimes get the following
message:

 > **** RAMdisk Directory BAD ****
 > Do you want to FORMAT RAMdisk (Y/N)?

I did not find anything regarding this in the manual, but if I answer the
question "N" there seems to be no problem.

5) I do not find the built in programs SCHEDL OR ADDRSS. Can you tell me
what happened to them?

6) In my previous M-100 I modified the power circuit according to an article
in PORTABLE 100 about 10 years ago. This allowed me to use 4 1.2 V Nicads
(inside the machine) to run the computer, and to recharge them by connecting
the external power adapter. (I have also wondered about using 5 1.2 V Nicads
to yield 6 V, but never experienced any difficulty using only 4.) Is there
any reason I could not or should not do this with the Booster Pak?

So far the nicest thing about the Booster Pak is to be able to look down and
see the message, "Free: 465920." 455K gives me a lot longer time in the
library or at a conference than 28 or 29K.

Thanks for your ongoing support.
