Subj: REPLY TO MSG #6069 (IS MY PDD2 DYING?!)

Ron,

Thanks very much for the reply. What you say makes sense... but if true, what
do I do next? Fixing the read/write compensation sounds way beyond my
abilities. May be time to look for a repair station.

Rick, (I'm sure you're reading this too) I went to a hobby shop and got some
lubricant. I did try lubricating the worm drive for the stepper assembly, but
I didn't disassemble the drive again to lubricate the motor bearings. Somehow,
and especially so after Ron's analysis, it doesn't sound like the motor
bearings are the problem. But correct me if I'm wrong...

Oh, and Rick, one more thing: I had saved an old thread from about a year ago
in which you suggested to someone else they call Tracy Allen. I did that, but
he doesn't do drives. And in another msg you suggested a Doug Lutes. I reached
him, at a new number now, and he would service the drive for a worst-case
price of about $80. I'd have to ship him the computer also, so he'd have
something to run the drive with.

Another option would be to get a new drive - saw a new one here a while back
for $100... or at this point I may just forget a drive and use the "T" as is
for note-taking and dump my day's work into my desktop PC.

Decision, decisions! Well, I'll poke around a bit more on this. Thanks Ron and
Rick, both of you. Maybe I'll get lucky and have a breakthrough!

Regards,

... Paul
