Guesses.
  If you've followed Rick's suggestion about removing the RAM chips, and
everything works, it may be due to chip creep, that wonderful effect where the
chip actually works its way out of the socket due to temperature cycling.
  Answer for chip creep is solder, or just push the bugs in tight once a year.
If you hear a slight click, it means the chips needed the push.
  Then again, your batteries might be at fault.
  Beyond those problems I would start looking for another human to blame for
damage to my computer.
