Using a BBS, effeciently, is an art. However, if it were less of an art and
more like using the telephone to order a pizza, or a date--about the same in my
book--then more folks would be attracted to its use. But, it's not. There are
ways to do things and hidden tricks and traps. One of these days, perhaps,
someone will write the book. More'n likely, though, the book will be a little
reference book and planner for BBS use, specific to the particular BBS host
software.

The best trick for public message use on any BBS is to keep track of all the
details, i.e., who, what, when, msg number, etc. Good online use involves good
offline organization and planning, as well as practiced skills. I don't feel
that most folks will go to the extent necessary to keep track of where they are
in online conversations, though. So, it's hit and miss as usual. I did know
an online member, along time ago--an engineer--quite mathodical--who kept track
of EVERYTHING; even to the extent of numbering his own messages, keeping paper
copies, etc. His name was Robert Briggs. Robert died of cancer a few years
ago. I think of Robert, every once and awhile. Robert is best known for his
work in annotating current drain in the various Model 100 components and
processes (See (6)TechRef for details).

Anyway, my gut reaction to organized BBS by the masses is a big wopping zero!
People, generally speaking, are less than midely organized. Frankly, I firmly
believe that we live our lives in quiet desperation. -Rick-
