  Thanks for the suggestions.  I'd like to try some of the  other methods for
transfering files that you put forth.

  Good news.  I finally got the program loaded and  running.  It turns out that
the program was stored on disk  without line feeds and carriage returns.  For
some reason,  which I don't understand, when I used the DOS "type"  command, it
appeared to be in 40 column format.  I don't  understand, but I have too many
other things to ponder.   Again thanks gang!
