5 CR may not be enough but its a good start... as to the autobaud that depends,
if the autobaud is hardware (firmware??...ie in the modem) it probably wont
help, but if the bbs is switching speeds according to what the modem autos to ,
it might. The older autobaud software used either CR or ^C to sense the speed .
Another IDEA can you set your modem to always talk to the BBS at one speed,
but still talk multiple speeds to the other end?? My codex always talks (and
announces) 9600 to my box, but allows 1200,2400,9600 as data speeds to the
other end. The only gotcha here is that the system and the modem must be set up
with HARDWARE flow control (^S/^Q or xon/xoff may not work....) [maybe must is
too strong..make it should be set up] RTS/CTS is a typical setup. ANOTHER idea
(i'm on a roollll now..) check to make sure the modem and the BBS are both
talking the same hardware protocol...ie both are looking at RTS/CTS, DTR/DSR/CD
the same way...DTR/DSR/CD should follow 802 specs and both the modem and BBS
should honor-set RTS/CTS. The default on a lot of things is to force signals
high instead of allowing the hardware to act intellegently with the software.
One way to check is with a breakout box between the modem and async port, but
make sure you are useing a box which shows tri-state info (red/green/out for
high/low/not-connected) because a simple present / not (red/out) box is
useless. Rich -- if you don't have or can't get one let me know... I have
ways..... gjm
