It's quite easy to check out the LCD on both a Model 100 and 102. In fact, the 102 is easier than the 100 and the 100 is a no-brainer. Here's the deal... Split the case on the Model 100: 1) Remove the corner screws on the bottom, then turn it right side up. 2) Set the 100 in front of you like you are going to use, grab the left hand side and rock it up onto its right hand side. This will put the top facing the right and the bottom facing the left. 3) Press down at the middle of the edge facing up, in the middle of the machine, on the black bottom half. Do the same at the middle of the front edge. This will split the case. Then, just lay the two halfs open. The top will be upsidedown on your right. The bottom will be rightsideup on your left. How the LCD connects will be obvious!! Before swapping out the LCD, I just read an e-mail from Mike Nugent regarding missing pixels on the LCD. Mike recommended the following: Artic start the machine by turing off the Memory Power switch on the bottom and letting it rest for about 15 minutes. When turned back on, if the lines go away, then it was a system RAM condition. If the lines remain, reset the connecting cable going from the LCD to the motherboard. Again, this is obvious. It's a 1 1/4" flat cable with a plug going into a receptical on the motherboard. Pull it off, then just stick it back on. Again, check the lines. If they still remain, remove the old LCD and put on a replacement. If the lines go away, the problem was your old LCD. If the lines remain, the problem is ... the LCD driver chip on the motherboard. Mike's recommendations are complete. At that point, you have at least choices. 1) Use it as is 2) Swap out the motherboard 3) Try to fix it (technical manual & experience needed) 4) Have someone else fix it ... a techie club member 5) Part it out 6) Use it for some art or utility project, such as a front yard statue next to your pink flamingo, a mobile, planter, pen & pencil desk set, or door stop 7) Throw it away ... if this one, throw it my way! :) To pixel or not to pixel. That is the question! -Rick-
