Subj: REPLY TO MSG #4203 (SPREADSHEETING)

Rick, Sounds good to me (putting my msg on the board!) What I did with the
Spreadsheet is took a look at the receipts that we have saved from the last
four weeks of shopping. I put the items that we must have in a list on the
spreadsheet with the price we paid and the date at the top column. Then,
before we went two days ago, I searched through the coupons that we had and
looked for items that we wanted to buy. All this does is let me know from week
to week if items are getting more expensive. In addition, with the coupons,
I'm able to see if the price on the shelf might have been bumped up a little to
compensate for the coupon. Not so far, but I bet that if I wasn't shopping at
the commissary, I'd see Safeway up the price when a good coupon is available.
Finally, the spreadsheet is a simple way of not forgetting any item. Once the
price is recorded, then I know it's in the cart. Oh yeah, one other point,
this gives me the amount, since I have set up a formula to add the items, and
also to compute the 5% commissary surcharge, and subtract the coupons. I wrote
the check out and I was 40 cents higher than the actual total. You know why?
Because I didn't notice that a 40 cent coupon for fabric softener sheets
expired.

I don't know if I'll continue to use this program, but at least I know it's
possible.

Take care, Tim
