What? The word "thesaurus" is not listed in your ... thesaurus?! That's
unamerican. I used my trusty, 3" thick, "The Randon House Dictionary of the
English Language, College Edition." Copyright 1968. Gee... I must have picked
this thing up at the age of 18, during my first year at Diablo Valley College.
Heavy! Groovy!

The preface starts out... "In the decades receintly past, especially since
World War II, the educational standards of the world have been extended to
embrace more people than ever before." It concludes with... "It is their [the
editors] sincere hope that the efforts to make it the best dictionary available
will be repaid by its greater usefulness to the greater number of people."
Signed... "Laurence Urdang, Editor in Chief"

So here we are in 1996, 28 years later, and their [the editors] efforts find
their way into cyberspace; a word not listed within its pages. There is a
listing, however, for "cybernetics." Back then, there were no thoughts about
orphan computers. :)

Wow... what a trip. Excuse me... I'm going to get a beer and ponder this
amazement in time and spirit.
