Hmmm... using "hyperterminal" huh?! ...try using a litle prozak to calm it down a bit! :-) Seriously, (like that's easy for me) an ASCII dump is a good way to test the system linkup. I would say, given what you've related, that "perhaps" hyperlink is looking at the built in modem vs. the external serial port. All terminal programs with baud, bits and stops set correctly (and it sounds like you've done that, correctly) should easily mate with a Model "T" computer via a null modem cable; especially the Club 100 CompLink cable. Try this: I sent you a copy of BoosterLink. Install it into a subdirectory named c:\root then run the program. Once it is running, go into your Sardine ROM and use the disk access function key; I believe it is function key <F6>. If everything goes well, the DOS loader routine built into the Sardine ROM should look out the serial port, find the DOS100.CO program file on your DOS computer running BoosterLink, load it and run it. From there you should be able to copy files between your two computers. Let me know what happens...
