Subj: REPLY TO MSG #6862 (Q&A)

William: The enclosed file in message #7116 is copied from this bbs to your
computer by first, reading the message, then selecting E for <E>ncl. Since
you're probably reading this reply as you've first come online, here is the
sequence of keystrokes to get you back to msg #7116 and get the X-TEL loader
file (X-LDR.DO)

 From the (T)op menu select
 (1)Conference
 (R)ead
 <I>ndividual by MSG #
 enter 7116 and hit <enter>

The message will once again appear. At the bottom of the screen (end of the
message) you will see an options line. Since a file is attached to this
message one of the options in the option line is <E>ncl.

Select E and a list of file transfer protocols will appear. The list is
presented in historical order from the first method used back in the 70's to
present day methods. Now, here's the unknown part of this tutorial: I do not
know what computer terminal program you are using to access this service.

If you are using your Model 100 with its built in TELCOM program, then you
would tap your <F2>Down key, enter X-LDR, hit <enter>, then select A for ASCII
from the list. Once the file finishes transferring, tap your <F2>Down function
key again to close the file. Mission accomplished.

If you are using your DOS computer and a terminal program, you would first
(...before you log on) know how to activate a download, e.g. with ProcommPlus,
activating the download is accomplished by tapping your PgDn key. With most of
the newer terminal programs there is an option line at the top of your screen
activated via <alt> and the underlined character of that option, or a "hot key"
or ... using your rat! ...ahhhmmmm.... I mean your mouse!

Assuming you know how to activate a download on your end, let's also assume
that within your terminal programs list is the YMODEM option (...if you know
about ZMODEM, that is the most modern choice). Given the above...

After selecting E for <E>ncl on the BBS, and the file transfer protocol list
displays, select the Y option (YMODEM). The BBS is now waiting for a signal
from your terminal program... in this case, it's waiting for a YMODEM-oriented
signal.

Tell your terminal program to start a download via YMODEM.

Once the file has been tranferred, since YMODEM is one of the smart file
transfer protocols, the file will be automatically closed on your end. Mission
accomplished.

That's it! Good luck... -Rick-
