Subj: REPLY TO MSG #6061 (IS MY PDD2 DYING?!)

Your TPDD2 may need to be cleaned and oiled. From your message, it sounds like
you did all the normal cleaning stuff.

Since it did work okay when you put it away, and it "kind'a, iffie, sort'a"
works now then it may just have some build up on the rotating berring surfaces.
The electronics and adjustments are "probably" okay.

If you feel up to it, open the drive. Please note the placement of all parts
and force nothing ... fiddle but not force.

You will see a large rubber band on the bottom going from the drive motor to
the hub. This should be cleaned but not oiled in any way. You will also find
a fuse. Make sure it's okay ... now that you say nothing is working.
"Lightly" ... that's lightly ... oil motor and hub berrings. Work all parts
slowly and "feel" for movement.

Reassemble unit ... again, force nothing ... understand its mechanics.

Now, give it a work out ... format disk after disk ... then save and load
files. Report back your findings.

VERY IMPORTANT: When working with TPDDs, TPDD2 and Model "T's" in general,
always have a hot cup of tee or coffee available ... some pizza and a few
friends is also a good idea. Relax and enjoy the experience.

All the best ... -Rick-
