Subj: REPLY TO MSG #6578 (DUET)
Sorry about the weird replies I just sent about using DUET with the Mac. I just can't get the hang of this on screen editor. Anyway ... . In Rick's reply he says: you have several choices for moving files from a TPDD (Tandy Portable Disk Drive) or TPDD2 (Tandy Portable Disk Drive 2) to a Mac or DOS computer. The "top" three methods are... 1) Use 100duet on an older Mac, and no, there are no upgrades. Period! 2) Use Lapdos II on a DOS computer (PC, XT, 286, 386 and some 486s), then move the files to the Mac ... What exactly is the dividing line between "older" and newer Macs. I am using an SE/30, which is definitely "older," but am running System 7.1, which is fairly new. I have 7.5 installed on one of my hard drives, but haven't tried using DUET with it. When I finally get a new Mac, I'll probably keep the SE/30, or one of the Mac Plusses I hyave in the attic just so I can use DUET. It is that much easier than using the Telecom program to transfer files. In fact, you might just buy a REALLY old Mac to run DUET. That said, why doesn't Club 100 sell DUET for people to use on "older Macs," or, if that is too much trouble, just release the programs into the public domain. The cables are readily available elswhere.
