Subj: REPLY TO MSG #880 (PORT. DISK DRIVE)

Okay, you've got the 100 per disk, portable drive. You will need the boot
strap loader. Capture the following program.

 10 OPEN"COM:88N1DNN"FOROUTPUTAS#1
 20 PRINT#1,"S10985157C00AD7EF08B3AS901FE"
 30 LOAD"COM:88N1ENN",R

To capture this message wait until the message stops, then: Tap your <F2>
function key, respond with the filename IPL and hit <enter>. Next, select the
<A>gain option from the prompt line and let the entire message pass by.
Lastly, tap your <F2> function key again to close the file. This message will
be a file called IPL.DO in your main menu.

To use the boot strap program you'll need to paste it into BASIC. Place your
cursor on the 10 of line 10. Tap your <F7> function key to start the select
function. Tap you down arrow 3 times to select the entire program. Then, tap
your <F5> function key to place the program into the paste buffer. Next, exit
the IPL.DO file by tapping your <F8> function key. Go into BASIC. After the
OK prompt, tap your <PASTE> key to paste the program into the BASIC
interpreter. Lastly, enter the command SAVE"IPL" and hit <enter>. Then, <F8>
to exit BASIC.

Now, take your drive (TPDD), turn it off and turn it over. Remove the cover
over the DIP switches. Flip all 4 switches to the ON position. Do not replace
the cover. Turn the TPDD right-side-up, connect it to your laptop, turn it on,
place the Tandy Utility Disk (boot disk) into the TPDD and close the door.

Select the IPL.BA file from your menu and wait. If everything works okay, you
will see the words INITIAL PROGRAM LOADER... WAIT A MINUTE.

Once the menu returns, remove the disk from the TPDD, turn it off, turn it
over, flip all 4 switches to the OFF position, replace the cover, turn it over,
and turn it on. You are now ready to use the TPDD as a storage device.

The first thing you will need to do is format some blank disks. Do not buy
disks from Radio Shack. They charge too much for poor quality. You may use
any double sided double density disks. I use generic, no name disks. They
work just fine. When you select the FLOPPY.CO file in your message you will
use the F7: Format selection to format the new disks. Once formatted, you may
use the other features of FLOPPY.CO to manage files to and from the TPDD.

Let me know how this works for you... -Rick-
