I more than understand your question.  It has little to do with compatibility
and lots to do with the speed of your CPU.  Try this:

Create a boot disk for your 486.  Put Lapdos on the boot disk, along with a
speed reduction utility.  Write an autoexec.bat file that calls the speed
reduction utility before it calls Lapdos.  See if that doesn't solve the
problem.

If you can't find a speed reduction utility, try this:

Create the same boot disk but leave off the .bat file.  Just boot to the system
prompt.  After booting, do a <ctrl><alt><-> to toggle a slower speed from your
system clock ... then run Lapdos.
