I don't own a Portable Disk Drive 1 so I can't speak from experience Paul. I only have the Portable Disk Drive 2 which is easier. But I think you need to go to BASIC and type the following: MAXFILES=1 I'm guessing that some program left you with no File Buffers (MAXFILES=0). The OPEN statement for COM needs a File Buffer. As a side note, it's not strictly necessary to set an IPL on the Model-T. Given the more complex statement that the PDD1 needs, I guess it's a good idea but I think a more descriptive program name than IPL.BA would be appropriate. How about BOOT1.BA or something like it? If you rename IPL.BA then in BASIC you need to reassign the IPL file name, like shown below: IPL"BOOT1.BA But my best recommendation is to assign no IPL file name (in BASIC type IPL) and write the required boot statement on a piece of paper and attach it to your PDD1 disk drive. Reduced to just the essentials for a Model 100 or Model 102 (not Model 200), the PDD1 statement would be as follows: MAXFILES=1:OPEN"COM:88N1D"FOROUTPUTAS1:?#1,"S10985157C00AD7EF08B3AS901FE":L OAD"COM:88N1E",R However, the portion you listed ....8B3AS90... looks suspicious to me. I think it probably be ....8B3AD90... or maybe, it should be ....8B3AE90... At any rate, check that one character closely. I'm guessing the whole string is exclusively Hexidecimal characters. Again, I'm not speaking from experience, just making an educated guess.
