Subj: REPLY TO MSG #366 (MODEM PROBLEMS ON A T102 PORTABLE)

Will:
The internal modem on the 102--as is on the 100 and 200--was originally
programmed to be used through the built in TELCOM program. The TELCOM program
was designed by Bill Gates of Microsoft fame to be used as either a front end
for auto-dialing or online use. This has confused many a user over the years
but it's actually quite simple and well planned. To make a long story short,
simply place the <> characters after the number you wich to dial if that number
is another computer (modem). Without the <> characters it will simply let the
phone ring once and hang up; the concept being that it is simply an auto-dialer
and that the user has picked up the phone to voice-answer the call.

Example: Auto-dial a voice number
 <F2> function
 Enter 4159328856
 Hit <enter>
Pick up the phone and respond to the person at the other end

Example: Auto-dial a BBS number
 <F2> function
 Enter 4159391246<>
 Hit <enter>
Wait for the computers to conect and respond via the keyboard

Hope this helps... -Rick-
