Ok on Alpha.  I'll make some phone calls today and see if they are still in
business.  I did find that the AD-1 (A/D converter made in Seattle and
advertised in 'Portable 100' years ago) is still in business and still 
manufactures the AD-1.  The price has gone up to about $475 now, though! I've
also heard of a series of A/D converters (self contained) made by Crystal Mfg.
in Dallas, TX.  They apparently have some 8, 12, 16, 20 bit A/D converters you
just put voltage to, input, and output, and they do all the magic for you.
Have to look into those, too.
