When your program puts the invoice number into the history file, preface it
with a strange character, like @ or >. Then you can OPEN the file, LINEINPUT
the history file line by line, hold every line starting with the special
symbol, then input the next line. At the end of the file (you may want to do
an EOF error catch) just look at your last held line and there is your invoice
number.

PRINT ">";INVOICE, #1
......................

....................... LINEINPUT A$,#1 IF LEFT$(A$,1) = ">" THEN H$=A$
GOTO whatever line you inputed in PRINT H$

Sounds a little like my TIMCRD.BA program. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
