if I remember correctly (ooops, there go another 4000 grey cells , running down
my shoulder and under the desk) when I interfaced my MDL 100 through our
multiplexor to our VAX (and I'll bet you are unless you're close to the actual
VAX hardware) I had to go with  7E1 and even had to "self-handshake" pins 4 & 5
to the MUX.

(but, I think, I had made the internal mod on my MDL 100, to use the DSR/DTR
and even the RTS/CTS (that meant wiring another chip in)
