Hello Jack, and welcome to Club 100. Lapdos II is "exactly" what you are looking for to connect your Model 100, or Tandy Portable Disk Drive, directly to your 386 for file transfers. You are not alone in your interest in Lapdos II. I've sold thousands of copies of Lapdos II and Traveling Software sold thousands of copies before I acquired the manufacturing rights. Also, I was a beta tester for Lapdos II back in the early 80's. Lapdos II runs on the DOS computer through COM1 or COM2. You may connect either your Tandy drive or your Model 100 to that port and move all file-types back and forth at 19200 baud. File-types include .DO, .BA and .CO files. Since the movement is via a binary transfer protocol, all files remain as is, i.e., your DOS machine becomes your Model 100 storage. Of course, all .DO are ASCII files which you may use with your DOS-based programs, i.e., word processing, database, spreadsheet. Disk drive connection is via the existing drive cable and a simple gender changer. Since both the end of the drive cable and your COM ports on your DOS computer are male connectors, you will need a female/female connector--straight through, not null. Model 100 connection is via a cross-pinned, null-modem cable. Not just any off-the-shelf null-modem cable or null-modem adaptor will work. They must be cross-pinned, as well. We offer the right cables but you may build your own. You will find cable diagrams in the (H)elpfiles off the (T)op menu of this BBS, as well as on the Lapdos II distribution disk. Lapdos II does all it's magic from the DOS computer side of the configuration. When you run Lapdos II you get a verticle split screen showing the DOS files on the left and the portable device files on the right. There is a simple menu at the bottom of the screen and a highlighter you may move from side to side and file to file. Three commands you use the most. They are (L)og--used to jump from drive A to B to C to ..., and move up and down through the tree (fully path supported), (C)opy--used to copy one file from side to side, i.e., hit C for copy and hit <enter>... that's it!, and (W)ildcopy--used to move several or all files from side to side, e.g., hit W for wildcopy, enter *.* for everything, or *.BA for just the .BA files, or *.DO, for just the .DO files, or "whatever", and hit <enter> and all file-types that match the search are transferred. Bottom line... Lapdos II will greatly improve your life!
