This whole coffee mug discussion kind'a grew out on the listserv (see new newsletter for signup details). Most of the folks liked the idea and I do have a file folder with those ideas printed. I talked to Miles Bell, Bell Promotional Advertising, about mugs. He's got catalogs full of mug ideas, with prices ranging from reasonable to out-a-site. Then I started thinking about not wanting to be like all the mug-toting business and events; such as the car shows. On the flip side, it would be a whole lot easier to develop the mug... or an annual mug series. One idea started "brewing" as Miles and I were talking based on a stein he can get, i.e. I have a "stein-like" mug from the "30th and last Andy's Picnic," a local car show put on by Andy Brizio, of Brizio's Street Rods (run by Andy's son, Roy) in So. San Francisco and Andy's "T"s (run by Andy and Sue) in Concord. Anyway, it's a plastic stein with an inner and outer. A full-color wrap is placed between the two halfs and the bottom is glued in place, sealing the wrap inside. Being sealed away from the elements, the wrap stays in prestine condition. Now, the best thing about these stein-mugs is that they are, due to their inner and outer halfs, insulated! Cold beer stays cold and hot beer... ahhmmm... I mean hot coffee stays hot. In other words, it's a useful cup ... and it will look good for years to come. Okay... if we, us, etc., decide on this stein-mug, then we can move onto designing the wrap. We could break up the next few years into series of mugs that eventually tell the whole story of the Model "T" series. We could start with pictures of Bill Gates, and his Japanes friend, a shot of the manufacturing plant in Japan. A shot of Tandy, with a picture of John Roach. We could include pictures of the premier copies of Portable 100, PCM magazines, the T-Notes section from 80Micro, a cover of Truly Portable, other pictures, etc. Each mug would come with a book, describing all the pictures and the history, etc.... or however we see it. On March 1st, 2003 we could announce the last in the series, marking the 20th year anniversary of the Model 100 computer. I might want to kick this off with a web page with pictures of proposals as they come in and as we discuss them. You know... this could really take off!
