Right you are. Perhaps NOW! folks will realize how dangerous dead wood, wood roofs, etc., are around a neighborhood. This "may" impact our code enforcement program. Then again, maybe not. The Oakland Hills fire of 91 will, at least, bring us new housing in that area--a chance to build it up a little safer next time. I just had an idea. What if someone was to develop a giant, flame-retardent, house blanket that could be automatically deployed? Every home-owner could place one on their roof. Then, in case of a neighborhood fire, it would cover the entire home; all the way down to the ground. Any hot stuff falling on the house would not catch hold. These house blankets could be coordinated with insurance agencies to reduce the cost of fire insurance. Here's yet another idea: How about Halon (tm) systems on every tree and house? The Halon could be pumped into a neighborhood as a public utility. The only drawback being that once deployed, no one in the neighborhood could breath. I guess having bottled air available for everyone would have to be considered. Hey! Or what about if we didn't live in houses, didn't build them, didn't own anything? We could live in the dirt, and... -Rick-
