Subj: REPLY TO MSG #369 (MODEM AGAIN)
The graphic characters are the result of "something" screwing up communications. Here's a check list look into: [] Stat setting should be M8N1E,20 pps (model 100/102) or M8N1ENN,O,T (model 200) [] Take all other phone equipment off the line you're communicating on, i.e., answering machines, portable phones, etc. All that "other" equipment adds to the resistance of that line. [] Increase the gain on the modem potentiometer found on the mother board. The "pot" is a little, blue round thing with a phillips screw driver cut out on the top. Turn it all the way counter clockwise. It will turn about 1/4 turn. [] Check the leads of your direct connect cable for broken wires. Hope this helps... -Rick-
