Subj: REPLY TO MSG #6718 (FASTER MODEMS)

[Rick: I had this all set to send when I noticed I ended up on The Dock! Next
time I logged on I saw your introductory explanation as to why that was so. Ah
what the heck, I'll send it anyway... may be some useful feedback here! -Paul]

Howdy Rick,

You asked for some feedback on your new 9600 bps access! Works great... am
using a Logicode 28.8 modem, a rather elcheepo brand I suspect, but hey, it
works. For some reason, though, I had to use line 4 (939-1367) - couldn't get
through on 939-1366.

Another thing... dunno if you remember this but when I first started using
that modem I was getting some strange behavior when logging on at the original
939-1246 number ... allow me to insert part of my June 16 message in case it
has scrolled off:

"What happens is that right after the prompt for "First
Name?" I get the ascii symbol for a "club" (I believe
that's ASCII 005), like on a pack of cards, then several
spaces, and then the two letters "rJ" side-by-side."

The good news I have to report to you is that I don't get this on the 9600 bps
access... don't know if this tells you anything useful, but... there you are!
I get nice clean prompts at logon now, so "it ain't broke no more" for my
particular modem/logon combination.

Hooray!

 ... Paul

PS ... and a belated big thanks for msg 6818 in which you outlined in great
detail your keyboard cleaning technique. That's one I've printed out for my
bulging "tips" file, which contains many good ideas from this BBS.

My wife's been hospitalized twice in the past couple of months but is doing
very well now... I am finally getting caught up on delinquent e-mail!
