Do I have to be running from ROM to switch RAM banks?

How do applications normally make the switch from one bank to another?

If I'm in one RAM bank, how do I inject code into another RAM bank? Is the only way feeding data through registers?

Are there standard routines for copying files or raw memory between banks?
